Bike buses: a research journey

It was fitting that I took the train back to DC on #worldbicycleday after riding along with five #bikebuses in four different cities over 12 days (with a few to join before the school year wraps up). So far I continue to be blown away by the efforts of adults to literally *be* the physical infrastructure our kids need to ride safely, whether it’s to school or to a local park or simply to experience the delight of riding through their neighborhoods.

It’s been heartening to see some amazing bike infrastructure on my travels but it’s far from enough – we need more, better, and faster to fill the massive gaps that exist for cyclers of all ages to be able to ride safely, comfortably, and with dignity.

This is the start of what I hope will be a long career studying these stealth public space peacebuilding parades and advocating for a mobility network that disrupts the existing modal hierarchy and ultimately makes bike buses unnecessary. Along the way I will be forever grateful for the support of kind 🚲🚍 organizers who warmly welcome me into their biking communities and the bikentrepreneurs who are contributing their savvy innovations so that riding is more accessible to more families.

More to come, but for now, Tulip 🚲 and I are hoping you all can get out with your two-wheeled (maybe 3?) wondermobiles today and get your joy on!
