Ringing in the New Year with a blog refresh 🎉

Bookshelf with 14 books on it.
Seems I have a serious case of tsundoku

After I got over my surprise that it was already 2024, I got into thinking that it was as good a time as ever to do some redecorating on this humble blog.

Here’s what you’ll see:

🧭 An improved home page, which after a scroll includes some signposting to help visitors navigate the site

🧐 A new research page (seemed appropriate now that I’ve defended my dissertation proposal 🤓)

📚 Tags for blog posts, including placeholders for new features like book highlights and reflections on my broader journey

🏛️ A link on my about page to testimonies I’ve delivered at DC Council hearings to advocate for safe streets

The refurb isn’t just cosmetic – I’ve also been strategizing what content would be best suited for this improved iteration of Peace and Planning. When I kicked off the Car Blanche series last fall, I had a clear view of the first eight(-ish) posts – now that those are off my chest, I’m excited to mix it up with other topics (there’s still some juice in the Car Blanche orange…it’ll just take some time to squeeze 🍊).

So what’s on tap for the semester ahead? You can expect (hopefully shorter, less academic-y) pieces that cover updates on my dissertation research, ponder the possibilities for peacebuilding inherent in our transportation system, and explore random ideas and questions that have bubbled up along the way.

Stay tuned for a personal update in the next post – in the meantime, I hope your 2024 is a year of joy and peace, love and light.
